A party game for the TV or a Zoom call, played on your phones

Echo puts the game board on one shared screen and gives every player their own phone as the controller. It's the imposter word game: everyone gets a secret word except one player, and the group has to find who doesn't fit. Free, in any browser.

How it works

  1. The shared screen opens Echo and presses Start. A 4-letter room code and a QR code appear.
  2. Every phone joins with the code or the QR. Each phone shows its own secret word, so nobody can peek.
  3. Clues go in on the phones and land on the big screen all at once, so the whole room reacts together.
  4. Everyone votes on their phone, and the shared screen reveals the imposter.

On a TV

Open Echo in the TV's web browser, or connect a laptop with an HDMI cable, or cast a browser tab. The TV only shows the board, so it doesn't matter how far away the couch is: everything you type and every secret stays on your phone.

Players scan the QR code with their phone camera. Nobody installs anything, and nobody has to pass a phone around.

On Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet

The host opens Echo on a computer, presses Start and shares that window or tab. Everyone else, wherever they are, opens the join page on their phone and types the room code from the shared screen.

On a laptop or tablet

No TV? A laptop or tablet in the middle of the table works as the shared screen. Turn the brightness up and the clues are big enough to read from across the table.

Ready to try it? Play free on a TV, laptop or video call. Phones are the controllers.

Why a shared screen beats passing one phone

Only one phone between you? The imposter game generator deals the words on a single phone you pass around.

For team building and office parties

Echo works for a remote team on a video call and for a team in a meeting room with a screen. No accounts, no install and no personal data, so there is nothing to clear with IT. The office word list and the Christmas word list are made for exactly this.

FAQ

What do we need to play on a TV?

A TV with a web browser, or a laptop connected to the TV with a cable or by casting, plus one phone per player. Phones join by scanning the QR code on the TV. No console and no app.

How do we play on Zoom, Teams or Google Meet?

The host opens Echo on a computer, presses Start and shares that window. Everyone else opens the join page on their phone and types the 4-letter room code. Share the computer sound too, so everyone hears the reveal.

Can people in the room and on the call play together?

Yes. The people in the room look at the TV, the people on the call see the shared screen, and everyone uses their own phone. It is all one game.

Is it good for team building at work?

Yes. A round takes 2 to 3 minutes, there is no account or install to clear with IT, and the Office pack is made for work. It works for a remote team on a call or a team in a meeting room.

Does it cost anything?

No. Echo is free in any browser. There is nothing to buy and no signup.

How many players can join?

Three to eight, each on their own phone. It is at its best with four to six.
